It appears that Britain has been laid with tinder, and Member of Parliament Boris Johnson, with the very tiniest of sparks, has set the whole place ablaze.Read More Strange Revolution
Progressive types have been pissing and moaning their way through 2017, constantly on the verge of either breaking a cup or checking in to a psych ward, but good news is round the corner. A vision was revealed to me and I can let it be known that 2018 is the year when all the metro-leftist dreams come true and society is remade in their image.Read More 2018, When All Our Dreams Come True
The zealots of Stop Funding Hate and their supporters are utterly convinced they’re doing the right thing, and that should give anyone pause for thought. Carrying out bad acts in the knowledge that they’re bad is worrisome enough. Carrying out bad acts because you sincerely believe yourself to be in alignment with a higher, more virtuous endgame is the first step along the path to a contagious and resilient form of autocratic thinking.Read More List Makers and Lit Matches
Hate, increasingly, just means anything the authoritarian-left disagrees with. And simultaneously, the idea that hatred is a criminal matter is drip, drip, dripped insidiously into the public consciousness.Read More The Hates and the Hate Lots
The cry from the left is unmistakable now: free speech is dangerous, and to support it marks you out as a suspicious individual. Naturally, you wouldn’t want to be added to any hit lists of people who favour free expression, so best just to grab a pitchfork and hope the mob doesn’t intuit your thought crimes.Read More Down With Free Speech
The BBC Asian Network went a little off kilter last week. In case you missed it, they sent out a cheerful message in which presenter Shazia Awan, who just arrived from the middle ages, vacuously requested listeners to call in with their views on the appropriate punishment for blasphemy. The corporation had to cope with a backlash, and in the end Britain’s glorious state broadcaster apologised. Our selfless moral guides at the Beeb are no doubt now fretting over whether their lack of conviction with regard to persecuting sinners might have serious consequences in the next life.Read More Stealth Blasphemy UK
Stumble accidentally into a social justice dominated forum and you’ll find yourself dizzied by various barked phrases which don’t mean anything. That is, you’ll recognise the words, but their meanings will be hollowed out and corrupted.
This is because the activist left has a habit of twisting words to serve its own purpose. There’s a basic disrespect for language, and an unwillingness to be precise. Buzzwords abound, and if you don’t know what they mean, then your ignorance may itself be taken down and used in evidence against you.
On Thursday, Joshua Silver, a professor at Oxford University, was comprehensively taken apart by Andrew Neil and Michael Howard on the BBC’s Daily Politics.
As a recap, scruffy Europhile Silver had freaked out and reported home secretary Amber Rudd to the police, for a speech and briefing at the Conservative party conference last October, in which it was suggested that companies list their foreign-born employees, ensuring that vacancies can be filled by British workers. It’s an idea which came to nothing.
When you shut down free speech, thereby removing the right and the capability to dissent openly, then the methods of expression left available for those who have been silenced become out-of-sight, resentful, and, taken to the extreme, violent. The recent trend toward de-platforming and censorship is reckless and ill-informed.
Conservative journalist Milo Yiannopolous, who delights in provoking thin-skinned authoritarians, has just earned himself a $250’000 book deal with the publishers Simon & Schuster, and predictably, elements of the illiberal left are coughing and spluttering with indignation.
Have you heard the news? Liberal progressives (yeah right) have just woken up to the fact that identity politics is divisive and counter productive. That is, a form of politics that divides people according to race, gender and sexual preference turns out to be divisive. It appears that people prefer to be judged on the content of their character rather than on superficial identity categories. Well, well, who would’ve thought it?Read More Triggered Liberals Are Ban-Happy
